Sonic & Knuckles is a captivating video game with beautiful features. It involves the mission of Sonic, a Hedgehog character, and Knuckles, an Echidna character. The task involves the quest of the two characters as they work towards saving the Angel Island.

Graphics 5/5

The Graphics in the Sonic & Knuckles game are excellent. They are vibrant and vivid. All the characters are superbly designed enabling easy character identification. A gamer feels the impact of victory upon defeating the enemies and rescuing the characters because of the beautiful graphics! Additionally, the graphics make it easier for gamers to enjoy the game and understand what is going on. The characters can move forward and avoid the obstacles fast because of the spectacular graphics, thereby accomplishing the set targets.

Gameplay 5/5

Those familiar with the third series of Sonic can attest to its similarity to Sonic and Knuckles. The similarities include the movement of the characters sideways, design, game mechanics, and graphics. However, players choose to play either as Knuckles or Sonic. Additionally, Tails is unavailable for selections. The game also lacks a save feature and a multiplayer mode. The character in play moves across six levels that all consist of two acts. The first act ends with a mini-fight with one of Dr. Robotnik's robots. The second act ends with a regular boss fight with Dr. Robotnik to mark the end of a level.

The moves by Sonic differ with those of Knuckles. Sonic is a higher jumper and faster than Knuckles. The character can also become invincible for an instant because of the insta-shield.  On the other hand, Knuckles can break obstacles, glide, and climb nearly all walls. Also, the levels include different cutscenes depending on the characters selected. You get to play similar levels with different characters. Isn't that a treat!

Controls 4/5

When playing Sonic vs Knuckles with the lock-on technology, a player must have copies of Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3. Sonic 3 cartridge is attached on top of the Sonic & Knuckles cartridge using this peculiar feature. The technology enables players to play the two games as one game. It also allows players to play in Sonic 3 as Knuckles, or as Tails in Sonic & Knuckles. More so, it enables saving the progress, a feature unavailable when playing Sonic and Knuckles separately.

Lasting Appeal 4.5/5

The features of Sonic & Knuckles make players want to keep on enjoying the game. It is an enticing game which individuals enjoy months on end. The technology has spiced the game by enabling players to use regular characters to play different roles. A player can enjoy the same game differently because of the incredible features. You cannot get enough of the game since you can substitute Knuckles for Sonic or Tails whenever you want.

Bottom Line

Despite the similarities to Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles is a must-have for each gamer. It is an incredible experience that everyone should enjoy!
